Kana stared at me for a long moment.

Then she gave me a strange, unsettling smile.

“Oh, so that’s how it is.”

She really was trying to test me—maybe she’d read Ryan’s mind when he was thinking about me and got suspicious.

She came to probe, unwilling to let even the tiniest clue slip by.

Sophie’s voice called out, “Lily, where are you?

“My brother wants to know if you have plans tonight—he wants to take you out to dinner.”

That seemed to finally put Kana’s doubts to rest.

I saw her tuck something she was holding into her pants pocket.

“Well, maybe we’ll meet again, big sister.”

She looked so innocent and sweet as she smiled and turned away.

But the moment she left, my legs nearly gave out.

Every hair on my body was standing up, and it took a long time to calm down.

For a split second, I saw what she was hiding in her pocket—

a small silver knife.

That’s why I refused Ryan the next day.

There was a demon watching him.

I couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.

During the break, I started investigating Kana—what weapon she used, how she committed her crime,

her habits and routines.

I chose to study medicine for this very reason.

I knew she wouldn’t be able to hold back for long.

Ryan and Ivy Qin were so sweet together.

And right now, Kana was blending into the crowd, dressed as a janitor.

Waiting for her chance.

I called Ryan.

I didn’t care anymore if Kana could read his mind.

I just wanted to quietly warn him.

That girl is here.

She wants to kill Ivy Qin.

The phone rang twice.

He answered.

“Hello.”

The moment he spoke, my nose stung with emotion.

“Ryan, it’s me. Can we… talk?”

I saw him pause.

He sounded impatient.

“I’m busy.

“My girlfriend’s here. I’m hanging up. Don’t call me again.”

“Ryan—” I started.

He cut me off again. “Lily Wang, you already have a boyfriend. Why are you calling me?”

His eyes finally flicked over, probably noticing the guy beside me.

He sneered,

“What, your boyfriend isn’t with you, so you’re looking for someone new?”

I covered my mouth.

I never thought he’d see me that way.

“Lily Wang, just go. I don’t want to see you.”

I wanted to leave.

But then I saw Kana, her hat pulled low, suddenly rushing toward Ivy Qin.

“Ryan, I like you.”

My tears wouldn’t stop. “But it’s too late.”

“But I really, really like you.”

The plan had gone off track.

I never expected Ryan and Ivy to be so high-profile, making Kana act sooner than I’d planned.

I’d wanted to wait before putting my plan into action.

My plan was simple.

After studying medicine, I’d use my knowledge to provoke Kana into hurting me instead.

It wouldn’t be fatal—the wound would miss my heart by an inch or two.

It would look dangerous, but it would be enough to put her in prison for life.

That way, Ryan could finally have a normal life.

It was the most thorough plan I could come up with to help him.

After meeting Kana, I didn’t sleep at all that night.

But this was the only strategy I had.

The key was just to

wait.

Wait for this woman to go off the rails again.

“Lily Wang! What are you doing?” I heard Ryan’s furious shout.

“Lily Wang! Stop right there!!”
