Celestial Fireworks Chapter 2

Chapter 02
Chapter 02
*

Inside the car, Jiang Yue’s frosty demeanor from earlier vanished completely. She gently patted my head, letting out a long sigh. “Finally managed to steal you away. It wasn’t easy, you know?”

Me: “?”

Jiang Yue’s beauty was truly breathtaking—enough to make anyone jealous. I’d often envied my brother for having such a stunning fiancée. When she looked at me, it felt as if I was the center of her universe.

I wasn’t clueless about feelings, and after recalling her conversations with my brother, a wild, impossible thought crept into my mind—could it be that Jiang Yue, the heroine who was supposed to be my brother’s destined match, actually liked me?

I hesitantly asked, “Jiang Yue, do you… have feelings for me?” Not the sisterly kind, but the kind between lovers?

She tapped my nose, her eyes sparkling. “Xinyu, you finally figured it out. Took you long enough.”

The moment she confirmed it, I wanted to turn into a monkey—swinging through the rainforest, startling the other monkeys, and roaring at the tourists below. My mind was a mess.

First, my brother, Lin Xincheng, actually liked the cold-blooded villain, Zhou Yichen!
Second, the heroine confessed she liked me!

This plot was officially off the rails.

I covered my face, feeling guilty. Jiang Yue liked me, but I didn’t have those kinds of feelings for her—at least, not yet. Wasn’t it unfair to her?

I started, “Jiang Yue, actually, I—”

But she seemed to know what I was about to say. Her beautiful face clouded with a hint of sadness, her lips trembling. My heart ached at the sight, and I suddenly wanted to give her the world just to keep her from crying.

A bizarre image popped into my mind: my brother clutching Jiang Yue’s waist, eyes red, whispering, “Don’t cry, I’d give you my life.”

I shook the thought away—way too cheesy.

Steadying myself, I realized, why not just go with the flow? Who wouldn’t fall for a gorgeous, sweet, and charming girl like her?

So I changed my tune. “Actually… I really like you too, Jiang Yue.”

My eyes sparkled as I looked at her. With the plot already in shambles and my brother falling for the villain, who could say what was right or wrong in love?

I’d never been to Jiang Yue’s house before. This was my first time. The towering, elegantly designed villa didn’t surprise me—after all, in the original plot, Jiang Yue and my brother were engaged, and both families were powerful. Luxury was expected.

Jiang Yue handed me a pair of slippers, smiling. “Xinyu, I’ve already set up a room for you. Stay here tonight, okay?”

I nodded obediently.

My room was right next to hers. When she opened the door, I was stunned. Everything—the bed, the wardrobe, the desk, the computer, even the little potted plants and the cozy wallpaper—was exactly like my room at home. The trinkets on the desk and the plushies on the bed were identical.

It was obvious she’d put a lot of thought into it.

She took my hand, eyes full of hope. “What do you think, Xinyu? Do you like it?”

I nodded, a little overwhelmed. “I love it.”

But in my heart, I wondered—just when did you start liking me, Jiang Yue?

She sighed. “Honestly, I was hoping you’d be scared by Zhou Yichen, so you’d want to sleep with me tonight.”

Me: “…”

Sleep with a beautiful girl? How could I say no?

I rested my chin on my hand, grinning. “So… you mean I can sleep with you tonight?”

She seemed surprised by my directness, then her face lit up with a dazzling smile. “I’d love nothing more, my little princess.”

“Jiang Yue, I always thought you liked my brother,” I said, yawning in my cartoon pajamas.

She wrinkled her nose in distaste. “Who would like that cold, arrogant jerk? He’s got a bad temper and thinks the world revolves around him. The only thing he’s got going for him is his face.”

Me: “…”

She smirked. “If it weren’t for the fact that he’s your brother, I wouldn’t even bother looking at him. Especially after he realized how I felt about you—he started doing everything he could to keep us apart! But with your mom around, I had to play the perfect lady, smiling politely at him while I wanted to scratch that scheming face of his.”

Me: “…”

So all that passionate love in the original story was just an act?

Jiang Yue grinned mischievously. “Now someone’s finally shown up who can put him in his place. He and Zhou Yichen? That’s going to be a show.”

I was curious. “But aren’t they in love with each other?”

I remembered how Zhou Yichen hadn’t resisted when my brother kissed him. If he were straight, wouldn’t he have freaked out?

Jiang Yue explained, “You know Zhou Yichen was the illegitimate son of the Zhou family, right?”

I nodded.

She continued, “Your parents never liked him. Your brother will probably have a huge fight with them. But Zhou Yichen is powerful—he’s taken over the Zhou family and made it stronger than ever. Still, he’s always had a ‘white moonlight’ in his heart.”

I perked up. “That’s my brother, right?”

She gave me an approving look. “Exactly. When Zhou Yichen was kicked out of the Zhou family with nowhere to go, your brother took him in.”

I tried to recall. Years ago, there was a stretch when my brother disappeared from home for days. When asked, he’d just say, “I found a little wolf pup. He’s clingy.”

Me: “?”

Was my cold, ruthless brother actually soft-hearted?

Expressionless, I asked, “So this whole kidnapping was just their idea of fun?”

Jiang Yue smirked and tossed something into my lap.

I looked down—a metal toy knife, so realistic it could pass for the real thing, but blunt enough not to cut skin.

I was numb. “Jiang Yue, was this the same knife Zhou Yichen held to my neck this morning?”

She gave me a sympathetic look. “Yep.”

Me: “…”

Damn!

“Your brother must be furious after being played like that by Zhou Yichen,” Jiang Yue said with a sly smile. “Tomorrow, you’ll probably see him limping around, clutching his back"

Oh?

Red eyes, hoarse voice, the picture of misery?

I couldn’t help but look forward to it
