Don’t just look at me, look at the book Chapter 1

Chapter 01
Chapter 01
*

When I woke up, I found myself transmigrated into a campus angst novel. But guess what? I wasn’t the heroine, nor was I the heroine’s love rival. I was the male lead’s unlucky little sister—the one who gets hit by a car and ends up disabled.

While everyone else is suffering heartbreak, I’m suffering actual broken bones.

Luckily, when I arrived, the car that was supposed to send me to the hospital hadn’t shown up yet.

As for why I get hit, you’ll never guess—it’s all thanks to the tragic love story of the main leads.

The heroine’s rival, a spoiled, brainless rich girl named Fang Meimei, is so jealous that she hires a driver to run over the heroine. But the driver, blinded by the night, mistakes me—walking alongside my brother—for the heroine.

So, while still in high school, my legs are ruined. I drop out, my life is over, and I become a cautionary tale.

The main leads, devastated by the incident, each face their own tragedies: one is forced to study abroad, and the other—the top student in school—becomes the only one in her class to fail the college entrance exam.

Talk about brutal. Ugh.

Is there any way to make these two wait until university to get together?

I just want to be a normal, healthy person!

So, I make a decision:

I’m dragging the heroine to live on campus!

No more walking around at night! No more puppy love!

Study! Let’s get wild about studying!

Sure, studying might not be as fun as dating… or, actually, maybe it is!

My entire fate is riding on this.

Time to crack down on early relationships.

When my brother, Chen Zifeng, finds out that both I and the heroine, Bai Xue, are moving into the empty dorm, he looks at me, confused: “Chen Xiaofeng, what are you doing?”

I put on my most serious face: “I was lonely in the dorm, and Bai Xue heard I was scared of the dark, so she moved in with me. Any problem?”

“She can’t live with you. I need to talk to her at night sometimes.”

I roll my eyes: “What could you possibly need to talk about at night? You do your homework with a pen, not her hair.”

Chen Zifeng is speechless for a moment. “Stop teasing me.”

“Don’t bother me. Living on campus means we can study at night.”

Chen Zifeng looks at me like I’ve grown a second head: “What did you just say?”

I push up my glasses and say earnestly, “If you don’t do your homework at night, you’ll have no future.”

Chen Zifeng scoffs, hands in his pockets: “You study all you want. I’m taking Bai Xue out to eat. Her stomach hurt at lunch. Probably something wrong with the cafeteria.”

Tonight isn’t the night of the car accident, so go ahead. I’ll finish my math problems first, then deal with your puppy love tomorrow.

While I’m solving a sequence problem, I suddenly get a bad feeling.

Tonight, there’s no car, but there are street thugs.

Toughs ambush Bai Xue. Chen Zifeng decides to be a hero and fights them off with his bare hands, getting his arm broken while protecting her.

The next morning, with his arm wrapped up, the whole school knows about his heroic rescue, and the jealous rival is even more furious.

These people are exhausting!

I shove my homework into my bag and rush out.

I catch up with Chen Zifeng and Bai Xue near the school gate, panting: “I can’t solve this problem.”

Bai Xue says, “Let me see.”

Chen Zifeng cuts her off: “You ran out here just to ask for help with your homework?”

I blink innocently: “What else would I do?”

Chen Zifeng’s face is a picture of frustration.

I’m done. What kind of top-tier love-addled brain is this?

Honestly, the toughs should just hit you on the head.

I ignore Chen Zifeng and grab Bai Xue: “Sis, I can’t do my homework without you.”

Bai Xue smiles sweetly, about to say goodbye to Chen Zifeng, but he whines a little: “Bai Xue, you haven’t eaten yet.”

“I have a pot in the dorm. I’ll make her congee,” I say.

Chen Zifeng is still reluctant, but he can’t win against me.

But we waste too much time arguing.

When the toughs block our path, I instinctively put myself between them and Bai Xue.

Chen Zifeng’s face turns icy—very fitting for the cool male lead.

As for me, I copy his expression and say, “First of all, I didn’t do anything to any of you. Second of all, I still didn’t do anything to any of you.”

I notice Chen Zifeng’s face twitches, like he’s trying not to laugh.

One of the thugssays, “Who’s messing with you? We’re here for Bai Xue.”

Perfect, I got them to admit it.

I step on Bai Xue’s foot.

No one gets to be top of the year by being slow.

She immediately understands and turns to run.

But when I stepped on her foot, my bag slips off my shoulder.

The thugs see Bai Xue running and try to chase her.

Chen Zifeng bends down, picks up my bag, and hurls it at them.

I’m furious. I’m really furious.

“My test prep papers are in there!” I shout, about to run after my bag, but Chen Zifeng grabs my arm and drags me away.

Wait, we’re not fighting?

What happened to the heroics?

I’m the only one who loses here.

“Chen Zifeng, you owe me for this.”

Chen Zifeng says, “Take my life if you must.”

“Then give me your girlfriend.”

Chen Zifeng trips over nothing, clearly exasperated with me.

I turn to glare at him and suddenly bump into a wall.

Chen Zifeng gasps.

I think, for once, he’s worried about his little sister.

But when I look up, I meet a pair of cold, clear eyes.

So handsome.

So tall.

So hard. Wait, that’s not a wall—that’s someone’s abs.

“Lin Yuchen, my sister didn’t mean it,” Chen Zifeng says.

Lin Yuchen? Oh, that’s the aloof school tough from the book.

Then Chen Zifeng drags me away.

“Wait,” Lin Yuchen says, for no obvious reason.

Chen Zifeng and I freeze.

But Lin Yuchen just walks past us and disappears down the path.

When he comes back, his arm is scratched up and his uniform is wrinkled.

But he’s holding my bag.

Lin Yuchen tosses it to me and says coldly, “I could hear you yelling from three kilometers away.”

No way. At most, three hundred meters.

“Thanks,” Chen Zifeng says, reaching out to pat Lin Yuchen’s shoulder, but Lin Yuchen steps back.

Chen Zifeng isn’t embarrassed. He just drags me away, saying, “Lin Yuchen, if you need anything, come find me.”
