Wishing you peace every day Chapter 5

Chapter 05
Chapter 05

Because of his previous injury, everyone was extra cautious. Lin Zeyu was rushed to Mingde Hospital. After a thorough checkup, the doctors said he was fine. But the blow had brought his memories flooding back. Su Yin found out from her connections and relayed the news to me.

As for me, I hid at home, too scared to face him. The scent of him still lingered on my sheets, a constant reminder of everything I’d done. I buried my head under the covers, wishing I could disappear.

I was almost asleep when I heard the front door unlock. My heart pounded—was it a burglar? I crept to the door, only to see Lin Zeyu standing there, holding a small cake.

“How did you get in?” I stammered.

He waved the spare key. “You gave it to me, remember?”

He slipped off his shoes and coat, acting like nothing had happened. “That bakery near campus finally opened. You said you wanted cake this morning, so I got you some.”

He raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile on his lips. “What are you waiting for? Come eat.”

Wasn’t he supposed to be furious? Demand an explanation? Instead, he dragged me to the table, watching me eat with a strange, amused look.

I couldn’t help but ask, “Did you poison this?”

He smirked. “Why, hoping I did? Afraid I’ll get back at you now that I remember everything?”

His bluntness made me blush as memories of our recent “couple” activities flashed through my mind.

I mustered my courage. “I just wanted to play a prank. Who knew you’d take it seriously? And I didn’t force you to do anything—you were the one who wanted to. If anything, I was the one who lost out…”

I trailed off, my voice growing smaller.

He didn’t argue. Instead, he pushed the cake closer. “Eat up. Su Yin said you skipped dinner. I’ll make something for you.”

He disappeared into the kitchen, leaving me stunned.

I stared at the kitchen, unable to believe what was happening. Shouldn’t he be angry? Yell at me? Instead, he was worried about whether I’d eaten.

I couldn’t resist pushing his buttons. “There’s eggplant in the fridge. I want eggplant with minced pork.”

“Okay.”

“And ribs.”

“Okay.”

“And—”

“Yiran, don’t push your luck,” he warned, brandishing a knife.

“Are you scolding me?” I shot back, emboldened by his gentleness these past few days.

He faltered, then softened. “I’m not scolding you. There’s just nothing else in the fridge. No more requests!”

I pouted, missing the clingy, sweet Lin Zeyu from before. I hovered in the doorway, only for him to shoo me out because of the smoke. I kept coming back, just to annoy him.

Finally, he caught me dumping extra salt into the pan. “Trying to kill us with salt again?”

He lifted me onto the bar counter, his hands warm on my waist. His breath tickled my neck as he whispered, “If you keep messing around, I’ll take you right here.”

My face turned scarlet. Did he know what he was saying?

We ate dinner in silence. As soon as I put down my chopsticks, he pulled me into the bedroom.

“Now that you’re fed, let’s settle things. What are we going to do about us?”

He backed me against the door, his gaze intense.

I refused to back down. “What, are you going to hit me? Yell at me? Or do you have another punishment in mind, big brother?”

I wrapped my arms around his neck, whispering in his ear, my lips brushing his skin. I could feel him tense up, his eyes darting away.

I grabbed his chin, forcing him to meet my gaze. “Why so shy, big brother? Your ears are redder than when you kissed me before. Do you like it when I call you that?”

He buried his face in my neck, mumbling, “Yeah, I like it.”

His sudden confession left me speechless.

He grumbled, “You tricked me, but you’re the one acting wronged. I haven’t even had my turn to complain!”

“I’m not upset!” I protested.

He ruffled my hair, soothing me like a grumpy kitten. “Alright, alright, you’re not upset. It’s my fault, Yiran.”

I pulled him close, biting his shoulder in mock anger. “Say you like me, Lin Zeyu!”

“I like you.”

“Say you love me!”

“I love you, Chen Yiran!”

See? He hadn’t changed. Even with his memories back, he still loved me. Even if I’d taken advantage of his amnesia, he kept his promise.

Lin Zeyu’s Perspective

After the accident, I lost my memory. I woke up surrounded by strangers, anxious and angry—until Chen Yiran appeared. The moment I saw him, I just knew his name. I couldn’t remember anything else, but I felt we were close.

He told me he was my boyfriend. I was shocked—did I really like guys? But looking at Yiran, I couldn’t doubt it. Fair skin, bright almond eyes, those adorable dimples when he smiled—how could I not fall for him?

Living together, I grew to love him more. He was so cute, always blushing when I kissed him, sneaking kisses at night, thinking I didn’t notice. Sometimes he’d hug me tight and ask if I’d always love him. Of course I would, silly.

But things changed. On the basketball court, my memories came rushing back. I called out to him, and he froze, not knowing what to do. At the hospital, he didn’t come see me.

He’d tricked me, but I realized—he’d always liked me. Even when we were kids, before he started picking fights and pushing me away. Now I understood: he’d been in love with me all along.

I forgave him for everything. Before heading home, I bought him cake. He ran out barefoot, shocked to see me.

He kept testing me, worried I’d be angry. But when I saw the hope and fear in his eyes, I knew I’d already fallen for him.

I love Chen Yiran. This lifetime, I’ll only ever love him.

—The End—
