Im just a stand-in focused on making money chapter 3

Chapter 03
Chapter 03
*

With a nice bonus and some good news, I hummed “Good Luck Is Coming” all the way home.
I even rolled around on the bed a few extra times before sleeping.
Han Zhi came out of the bathroom, toweling his hair, and scolded, “If you want to roll, go do it in the toilet.”
I couldn’t help but click my tongue.
He always says the meanest things.
But since he’s about to give me a huge breakup payout, I generously let it slide.
But if I act more difficult now, will Han Zhi pay even more just to break up with me?
The more I thought about it, the more possible it seemed.

So after he lay down, I snuggled up to him, put on a sweet voice, and said,
“Honey....I love you so much”
“...”
He ignored me.
I shamelessly burrowed into his arms, repeating, “Honey, I really, really, really like you”
He pressed my head down and said calmly, “I remember you’re not on your period today.”
I froze and let go of his arm, “Haha, maybe it’s early this month...”
Han Zhi blocked me from escaping, “Really? It’s been on time for six months, and now it’s early by two weeks?”
“...Yeah, that’s weird. I’ll get it checked at the hospital tomorrow!”
Before I could react, he scooped me up.
“No need. I’ll check for you.”
I tried to reason, “Honey, tomorrow’s not the weekend.”
He asked again, “Don’t love me anymore?”
I wanted to cry, clinging to his neck, “Honey, I have to work tomorrow...”
“Don’t love me anymore?”
“...Ugh, I love you! I love you to death!”

Han Zhi must’ve done it on purpose, keeping me up half the night.
The next morning, as the big boss, he could sleep in, but I still had to drag myself to work for my 500-yuan attendance bonus.
I almost fell asleep standing during the morning meeting, earning the “model worker” title from my coworkers.
Damn it...
That’s why, no matter how handsome and fit Han Zhi is, I’m not tempted.
Even if it’s just once a week, it’s enough to wear me out for a whole day.
Every time, I feel like I might just die in his bed.
After that, I didn’t dare provoke him again.
If the breakup payout is a little less, so be it better to stay alive.
An apartment in Yucheng costs at least a million.
Even if it’s just a million for six months, that’s still a windfall.
Thinking about it, even my exhaustion felt lighter.
I happily started planning what I’d do once I got the apartment.
But after a month of waiting, Han Zhi still hadn’t said the word “breakup.”
Seriously?
Is he messing with me?
I was about to confront those two gossips when Han Zhi called.
“I’ll be home late tonight. Don’t wait up.”
My eyes lit up could it be?
“What’s coming back?”
Han Zhi sounded confused.
I realized I’d spoken my thoughts out loud and quickly covered,
“Nothing, nothing. Honey, just come home early, okay? I’ll miss you.”
“...”
Worried he might actually come home early, I quickly added,
“Of course, your work is more important, so don’t rush.”
He didn’t respond and hung up.

Not long after, one of the gossip girls texted me,
[President Han’s white moonlight is back. If you’re smart, leave on your own. If you get kicked out, it’ll just be embarrassing for you!]
I replied excitedly, [Is this for real?]
She responded, [What else? Who’d pick a stand-in over the real thing, especially a gold-digging mistress?]
I shot back, [If you’re so noble and not after money, give me all your money!]
She didn’t reply.
I didn’t care, humming “Good Luck Is Coming” as I started packing my things.
I didn’t have much anything Han Zhi bought was off-limits after the breakup, per his rules.
So I just gathered up what was truly mine, not wanting to tip him off by packing too early.
I sorted everything in one place, then relaxed in the bath, browsing apartments online, waiting for my big payday.

Today is a good day, everything’s going my way hm... hm.... hm”
I was humming to myself in the bath, scrolling through listings, and had just found my third dream apartment perfect location, perfect layout when the bathroom door suddenly swung open.

“You’re real happy I came home early, huh?”
Han Zhi stood in the doorway, arms crossed, definitely not looking pleased.

I nearly jumped out of my skin, ducking back into the water. “No, I’m not! I swear! I was just singing because work went well today, honey, you’re so mean to think otherwise!”

Han Zhi just snorted, clearly not buying it.

I glared at him in my mind as he started undressing and walked over. At least tomorrow was a day off.

Or so I thought.
