Im just a stand-in focused on making money chapter 7

Chapter 07
Chapter 07

For a long time, I didn’t understand what Han Zhi meant by “you really are worth it.”

It wasn’t until two years later, after we’d been together again, that I finally recovered my missing memories.

That weekend, Han Zhi was away on a business trip. Bored, I decided to look for a book to read.

I almost never read, so it was the first time I noticed a delicate wooden box hidden in the corner of Han Zhi’s bookshelf.

It had a combination lock. I tried a few numbers, finally unlocking it with Han Zhi’s phone passcode.

He’d said those numbers were the date he joined the company. I’d joked he was a workaholic, never thinking there might be a deeper meaning.

Inside the box was a diary.

At first, I was smug about discovering another of Han Zhi’s secrets.

But when I opened the cover, I was stunned to see my own handwriting and my own name.

I’d always kept a diary since I was a kid, influenced by my parents.
They’d left when I was too young to remember, so all my impressions of them came from their diaries.
But their entries were short, so I only pieced together fragments. That’s why I kept my own diary, recording my thoughts and daily life.

But there was a period of time I could never find just like my memory, it was a blank.

At first, I thought nothing important had happened, so I didn’t worry about it.

Looking at the diary, I thought of Pandora’s box, but I still opened to the first page.

The date was twelve years ago.

Today I saw the most handsome guy at the school cafeteria. That face, that waist, those legs, that height he turned me into a total idiot. I ran up and asked for his WeChat, but he turned me down. Boo hoo…
But I won’t give up! As the saying goes, persistence wins the day. I’ll definitely win him over! Damn, he’s too hot!

I flipped ahead a few pages.

Sure enough, it was Han Zhi.

We’d met in college?
Why didn’t I remember any of this?

A familiar headache hit, but I couldn’t stop reading.

Finally saw what a real ice prince is like so cold! No wonder no one else dares chase him. But on the bright side, less competition for me. I can put all my effort into winning him over.

…They say I’m crazy, ignoring all my other suitors just to chase after him. They don’t get it Han Zhi’s worth it.

Today I performed a fire rose magic trick for Han Zhi. He said I was crazy “you bing” in pinyin, which sounds like “you must respond.” He’s hinting he’ll always say yes to me. He likes me.

…Met his mom today. Han Zhi looked upset—turns out she wanted him to enter a competition, but he didn’t want to. He was already overwhelmed with classes and projects. I told him to skip it, he’s already amazing. After all, he’s been winning awards since freshman year.

Stayed up till 3 a.m. Thought Han Zhi was asleep, but he was still working on a project. I asked why didn’t he say he didn’t want to enter? He said I didn’t understand. Then I got it his family was strict. I offered to help, but he refused, saying he’d never cheat. I had no choice.

…His dark circles are getting worse. I taught him a little white lie to get his family off his back. Didn’t think he’d use it, but today he shyly thanked me Damn, I’m falling for him

Today I found out Han Zhi had never been to a bar before. Unbelievable! I feel like a delinquent luring a good kid. Oh well, I’ll be the “bad influence” if it means being with him.

I really don’t get why some families treat not liking carrots as a crime. And why would parents force their kid to eat only carrots just because he doesn’t like them? Not eating carrots won’t kill you…

Shocked Han Zhi’s favorite date spot is the amusement park. Seeing him grinning on the pirate ship, I can’t connect him to the cold prince everyone else sees.

His favorite outfit is an orange T-shirt and denim overalls! So cute! I asked why he always wears black, white, and gray. At first he said it was for maturity, but after I kept pestering, he admitted the truth.
Turns out, his parents burned his favorite clothes in front of him just because he didn’t like what they picked out.
What kind of people do that?

…Likes sweets but not dairy…

…Likes fluffy things…

…Wants to be an adventurer…

Han Zhi said he wanted me to take him away. The Han family is powerful in Jingdu, but I’m an orphan with nothing tying me down… Okay, I admit, I wanted to take him away. Damn, I really am the “delinquent” here.

…But honestly, being love-crazy isn’t so bad. Who needs anything else when you’ve got a husband like this? Didn’t expect Han Zhi to be so domestic, either.

…Five hundred a month for utilities, 2,500 for food, another 2,000 for fun, the rest goes into savings. When we have enough, we’ll travel together…

Han family came to persuade Han Zhi to leave.
I thought our life was fine even if the apartment was old, we didn’t have a mortgage, so we could spend on living well.
Today I learned my place was smaller than Han Zhi’s old bathroom.
No more words save up, buy a huge house for Han Zhi!

Lost my job ,damn Han family, abusing their power! But I’m a cockroach you can’t kill me! I’ll never give up!

…Fine, I give up. Maybe Han Zhi should go home. These days I’ve been job hunting and handing out flyers, lost weight and got tanned. He could have an easy lifewhy suffer? Am I crazy?

I can’t believe it. I thought Han Zhi went home, but that fool slept under a bridge! He’s nuts! Fine, if he doesn’t want to go back, he doesn’t have to. I can support us. One day, I’ll buy a house bigger than the Han family’s bathroom.

The diary stopped there.

My head throbbed. I thought I heard Mrs. Han’s voice:

“It’s all your fault! If you hadn’t led him astray, he wouldn’t have suffered.
He’d be Han Group’s GM by now. Now he’s dead. Are you happy?!”

Amid the chaos, I heard my own voice:

“Please… let me see him one last time… just once… please…”

“Don’t even think about it. My son’s death is all your fault. I’ll never forgive you”

“I’m sorry… I never meant to hurt him…”

I really never meant to hurt him.

I didn’t understand why fate wouldn’t leave us alone.

I could barely breathe, watching Han Zhi handing out flyers, getting hit by a car.
Blood and flyers scattered across the road.

How much must that have hurt…

“She lost her memory because of severe trauma and emotional shock. Recovering those memories will be emotionally difficult that’s why you couldn’t bring yourself to help her remember, isn’t it?”

I heard a familiar sigh, then Han Zhi’s voice.

“When will she wake up?”

“Shouldn’t be long. Don’t worry, she’s healthy look, she’s already waking up.”

Han Zhi whipped around, meeting my gaze.

He froze, then quickly put on his usual cold mask, asking the doctor to check me over.

Once the doctor left and it was just the two of us, he sat beside me and silently started peeling an apple.

“The Han family was too much,” I complained.

Han Zhi’s hands paused. He looked up, trying to stay calm, but his reddening eyes betrayed him.

“They told me you were dead.”

“…Yeah.”

He looked away, waiting for the tears to subside before turning back. “I didn’t die. They lied.”

“They said you were in a car accident.”

“…No, just heatstroke.”

“They said… it was all my fault.”

“…No, it wasn’t your fault.”

I sniffled, then snapped, “Can you put that stupid apple down and hug me for a bit?”

Han Zhi dropped everything and wrapped me in his arms.
Always acting tough, but behind closed doors, he cried even more than I did.
He wouldn’t let go, and I knew, without looking, that his eyes were swollen again.

What a young master.

I sighed, patting his back. “Actually, what I wanted to say is, it’s wonderful we loved each other so early.”

Han Zhi started crying again, but still tried to act tough. “Love-brained idiot.”

This time, as the patient, I wasn’t going to let him get away with it. “You’re the love-brained idiot! House-obsessed!”

Han Zhi pinched me under the blanket, sneaky as ever.

I was about to scold him, but he beat me to it:

“Yeah. To have loved you for so long what a blessing.”
