Liu Yanyan was a mystery wrapped in contradiction.
She always claimed she wanted to ruin him, make his school life a living hell.
But then she’d show up with gifts things he’d never even seen before.
His hollow cheeks slowly rounded out as she kept feeding him these treats.
That winter was especially cold, and Liu Yanyan shoved a thick quilt into his drafty shack.
"My family’s dog used it last year. if you don’t want it, give it back."
Jin Xuan could never throw it away.
He spent the warmest night of his life under that quilt, but by morning, something was off.
The blanket and everything else Liu Yanyan had brought him was gone.
Panic growing, Jin Xuan rushed to school to find her.
No one remembered any transfer student named Liu Yanyan.
For some inexplicable reason, the world’s timeline had reset to before she arrived.
Only he remembered.
The next day, a new transfer student appeared.
The introduction was exactly the same as Yanyan’s had been, but this time, it wasn’t her.
The new girl wasn’t like Liu Yanyan at all ruthless and cruel in ways that haunted his nightmares.
Jin Xuan clung to hope, wishing Liu Yanyan would show up again.
But after this girl stole his scholarship by pulling strings, forcing him out of school, Liu Yanyan never returned.
Curling his hands into fists, he refused to accept it.
He told himself, "She must just be tired of me."
Jin Xuan saw Liu Yanyan again, but she’d forgotten everything.
"Your car... I’ll repay you," he muttered.
She clicked her tongue, "Look at you! With what money? This is a limited edition."
He wanted to disappear, mortified that she had to see him at his absolute worst.
She scolded him for a while, then suddenly changed tactics.
"Forget it, come with me. I’ll take you to the hospital."
She added, "Don’t look at me like that you die on me and I’ll never get the damages."
She blustered about charging him interest, but when he woke up in the hospital, she was gone along with her bank card.
Everything reset again, just like the first time.
Replacing her was a spoiled young master, who tormented Jin Xuan even more.
Shrinking beneath his threadbare blanket, Jin Xuan started noticing a pattern.
The third time he met Liu Yanyan, it took only a few encounters to figure out her so-called "mission."
She wanted to sabotage his life, to ruin everything he worked for.
But maybe if that was what kept her from disappearing he’d let her.
So he stopped fighting back. He let her steal his company data, let her outplay him at every turn.
That night, sitting in darkness, Jin Xuan watched the surveillance footage of Yanyan downloading everything he’d built. He chuckled bitterly.
Sometimes, he felt like he was just her dog she called, and he followed, no matter how painful or hopeless.
But she left again, without warning.
Jin Xuan couldn’t figure out why. He’d been willing to lose it all, just to keep her around.
And each time, she’d reappear, hand him a piece of candy, then bash him over the head.
It was almost better to never have known her at all.
He started to hate her.
He swore that if she showed up in his world again, he’d end her himself if she wouldn't stay, at least death could keep her here.
But the first time Jin Xuan tried to carry out his threat, Liu Yanyan kissed him unexpectedly.
Fine. She wouldn’t leave so quickly, maybe later.
The second time, as he raised his hand, she asked, "I want ice cream."
"What flavor do you want?" he murmured helplessly as he went to buy it.
The third, the fourth, the Nth time he was about to do it, she’d snuggle up in her sleep and nuzzle her face against his arm, whispering,
"Jin Xuan, don’t hurt anyone, okay?"
His fingers trembled on the knife, but he couldn’t do it settling for gently patting her back instead.
If her true purpose was to rescue him, then he could wait he’d only do it when she was about to leave anyway. There was no downside.
Those days felt like a beautiful, impossible dream.
Jin Xuan floated through them, believing almost that he could be happy with Liu Yanyan like this forever.
Until the day he came home unexpectedly and overheard her talking to the "system."
That’s when he learned the cruelest truth: her mission wasn’t to love him it was to end him.
Every time she’d appeared, it was never about his pain or his past; she just wanted to finish her task and return to her own world.
The bitterness and pain morphed into pure rage.
He listened to Yanyan and her system conspiring to win him back, completely unaware that he’d heard every word.
But for Jin Xuan, the illusion was shattered.
He’d made his decision, and nothing she did could stop him.
Today, he swore, he’d see it through.
Tears, it turned out, were the greatest weapon.
All Liu Yanyan had to do was cry just once and Jin Xuan forgot every grievance. All he wanted was to comfort her, to never let her cry again.
If she wanted love, he’d give it to her.
If she wanted to go, he’d make it happen.
Even if she wanted him gone, he’d oblige.
From that day, his hatred turned inwards his plan to destroy Yanyan now became a plan to destroy himself.
After eavesdropping on her conversations with the system, he learned everything about her world, her family, her cherished friends, and her little dog everyone she loved.
And him? Jin Xuan realized he meant nothing.
He never imagined, just before losing consciousness in her arms, that his last thought would be
I’m lucky this way she’ll never forget me.
He died there, cradled in her embrace.
When he opened his eyes, time had rewound again, to the day before the Liu family heiress returned to the country.
Jin Xuan smiled. He knew he’d finally figured out the rules everything depended on him and her connection to the system.
Yanyan’s mission was always to "eliminate" him; only by dying could she go home.
But the true turning point, the real world "reset," depended on Ban Yansi.
If Ban Yansi died, the world collapsed and started over.
So Jin Xuan hatched a plan after he was gone, Ban Yansi would be given a slow acting poison survivable with monthly antidotes, but fatal without it.
He arranged for someone close to Ban Yansi to deliver the antidoteneight doses.
On the ninth month, Ban Yansi would die.
And with him, Jin Xuan would return once more.
He had no idea how many cycles it took.
Again and again, Ban Yansi died and the world reset until finally, even the system broke down.
What do you even want, man? Please, I’m begging, stop. This world can’t take much more. You’ll destroy everything.
Just tell me what it is. We’ll talk, please, don’t do anything rash.
Jin Xuan wiped the blood from his face, looking every bit a demon arisen from hell.
"I want Liu Yanyan."
The system paused.
If I bring her back, will you behave? Will you quit all of this?
"No," Jin Xuan replied, voice cold and resolute.
"I want you to send me to her world."
End.
